Washington Pigs and their Pork….

The Economic Stimulus Plan presented by the Democratic Leadership is filled with Pork.

For example:

  • $246 million tax break for Hollywood movie producers to buy motion picture film
  • $125 million for the Washington sewer system
  • $160 million for “paid volunteers” at the Corporation for National and Community Service
  • $100 million for reducing the hazard of lead-based paint
  • $400 million for the Centers for Disease Control to screen and prevent STD’s
  • $600 million to buy hybrid vehicles for federal employees
  • $248 million for furniture at the new Homeland Security headquarters

And this…..

$1.9 million for the Charles B. Rangel Center for Public Service

Important Note:  Charles Rangel helps to write “tax code” ~ ain’t he cute?

It’s been dubbed the “Monument to Me” — a planned $30 million academic center supported by longtime New York Rep. Charles Rangel and named, not so surprisingly, for Rep. Charles Rangel. The Harlem Democrat raised hackles after securing a $1.9 million earmark for the Charles B. Rangel Center for Public Service at the City College of New York.

When a more junior colleague objected to the idea of lawmakers sponsoring things bearing their own names, the 78-year-old Congressman responded “I would have a problem if you did it, because I don’t think that you’ve been around long enough….” Rangel ruffled more feathers by reportedly soliciting donations for the center from companies with business before the powerful Ways and Means Committee — which he chairs.

He also stands accused of working to preserve a tax shelter for an oil drilling company whose chief executive pledged $1 million to the center; Rangel says his support for the legislation had nothing to do with the company or its executive’s pledge.

It hasn’t helped Rangel’s case that he’s been caught up in a number of ethical and legal tangles in recent months, including his failure to report $75,000 in rental income from a villa in the Dominican Republican, alleged violations of New York regulations on rent-stabilized apartments, and reports of inappropriately taking a tax break on a home in Washington, D.C. Rangel has acknowledged some oversights but insisted he’s “done nothing morally wrong,” and welcomed a House ethics investigation that’s expected to wrap up early in 2009.

Charles Rangel is a pork lovin’ pig….who has been livin’ high on the hog and like Geithner & Daschle isn’t payin’ his taxes!

This is BY FAR the most insincere attempt at a so-called apology that I have ever seen.  He can’t even read the statement that was prepared for him.  Time to get rid of this useless slob!

Evidently Rangel’s patience for scrutiny has a limit: pressed by a reporter on his fundraising tactics for the academic center named for him, Rangel responded, “I really think you’re being annoying now.”

  1. Keep nailing them, enicks. We’ll bring these fuckers down.

  2. oh, this is f’ing classic — WOW, WOW, WOW !!!!

  3. You know he even talks like Porky Pig.

  4. Can you believe the insincerity and dis-interest when he read that statement that someone prepared for him. He is sickening….earmarking nearly 2 million for a center of public service named after himself – then giving a million to an oil company who was supporting it. He puts the P in Pig.

  5. Yes, he’s fucking living in a rent controlled building in Harlem. I think he has like three units there and he’s using one as an office which is highly illegal.

  6. Are we supposed to trust our government when they put scum like this in powerful committee positions. The alarm clock is going off people…..wake up.

  7. And this mother fucker was the one IMO who put extreme pressure on Hillary to concede. I believe he was threatening her with her senate seat.

Do you know how to fix the time on the comments?

  8. I think its in settings (general). i tried to fix it yesterday – but i don’t get it. Rangel is sickening.

  9. They are all sickening — I am trying to take a class for my job — it sucks and I am distracted.

When will the Obots wake the fuck up? I so hope this guy is a 1 term president. You know they will never let Sarah Palin get very far. I hope the republicans find someone who is strong and smart and can stand up to the media bullshit.

I hate the democrats more than the republicans and I thought I would never say that. I do know one thing — the dems eat their own and I can’t be part of that party. NEVER — not after May 31st.

I hope the Unions wake up to “don’t buy American” attitude from barry. I guess he wants us to buy from Africa now?

  10. Yeah, don’t buy American and don’t hire a white guy. The Unions SEIU in particular are dismantling. The UHW is forming their own union. DON’T BUY AMERICAN…..that’s exactly what I would expect would come outta Barack and Michelle Obama. Baracks not an American and Michelle wishes she wasn’t…..I wish she wasn’t too. Good luck getting through your class.

  11. Tax Shelter Tax Shelter Tax Shelter/KPMG KPMG KPMG? You think Madoff’s coconspirators, I mean clients are mad, how would you like to be the client of the nationally recognized whistleblower Mike Hamersley, who not only helped sell tax shelters to clients but then turned such clients in to investigators claiming he never was involved in selling tax shelters. It makes about as much sense as making Mike Hamersley in charge of prosecuting the war against tax shelters in California? Did Mike Hamersley lie to the Senate about his fraudulent tax shelter activities? Does it even matter if anyone lies to the Senate since they are all liars anyways? Does anyone in the government have any integrity? Does the state of California have any integrity? California is bankrupt; California has just been downgraded to A+, the lowest of any state in the country; and not refunding citizens hard earned income owed to them for being stupid enough to actually overpay their taxes. What does California decide to do, hire Mike Hamersley, one of the biggest tax fraudsters of all time to confiscate income from honest taxpayer’s, unlike Mike, for the benefit of the state.

  12. I see that Madoff might go to prison because he made off with the investors money—–What about Henry Paulson ?

  13. Good point, armadillo. Paulson should be in prison and we should have some accountablity of where all that money went before we hand over a trillion more.

  14. Whistlewhat (aka Angry Citi Investor, Angry Citi Shareholder, Thoreau, Whistlefraud, Concerned WSJ Reader, etc.–I have to admit it is difficult to keep track of all the aliases you are using to post identical comments while appearing to be different bloggers.):

Your comments about Hamersely just don’t make any sense at all. I too am highly skeptical that your bold statements about Hamersley could be based on any reliable evidence at all. I am guessing that is why your comments were removed and you were banned from WSJ blogs. I too read Travails in Tax and personally observed Hamersley’s testimony before the Senate Finance Committee. He seems like an exceedingly honest guy to me too. Yeah, isn’t it a fact that KPMG said Hamersely had absolutely no involvement or knowledge of tax shelters in its press release to the Senate Finace Committee after Hamersley testified in October 2003? I read that KPMG press release on the PBS Frontline website. http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/shows/tax/interviews/release.html

Are you suggesting Hamersley and KPMG are in cahoots? Wow, that would be a bold strategy seeing as Hamersley sued the crap out of them. Case No. BC 297209, Los Angeles Superior Court (June 23, 2003.), also reported in Tax Notes Today full copy of complaint 2003 TNT 124-5
